On October 23, 2021 a Seattle Kraken fan sitting behind the Vancouver Canucks bench noticed a mole on the neck of one of the staff. The woman began to bang on the glass to get his attention and show him a message she had written for him on her phone saying she was concerned that the mole was cancerous.

Brian Hamilton the Canucks assistant equipment manager later went to the doctor where the mole was confirmed to be cancerous. The doctor told him that if he had left it he would have only had 4-5 years left. On January 1, Hamilton posted a letter on the Canucks social media accounts saying the woman had saved his life and asking for help to track her down to thank her and through the power of the internet she was tracked down very quickly.

The woman, 22-year-old Nadia Popovici is a medical student. At the New Years Day game Hamilton and Popovici were able to meet face to face. During the game Popovici was recognized by the arena and it was announced that the Canucks and the Kraken were awarding her with a $10,000 scholarship.
