Tami Stronach who played The Childlike Empress in The NeverEnding Story is returning to screen acting more than 30 years later. Inspired by the third season of Stranger Things' tribute to the 1984 film, Stronach and her husband Greg Steinbruner are currently shooting an '80-based movie called Man & Witch. It will star themselves as well as several 80s stars such as Christopher Lloyd, Sean Astin and Rhea Perlman.
"It's a modern film in the sense that we're not trying to make it look like an '80s film," Stronach said. "It's not going to be grainy and on VHS. It's really more about storytelling devices. It's not cynical. It's a heartwarming story."
Stronach also revealed the reason she didn't pursue a career as a child actor. Her new-found fame resulted in adult men camping outside her family's home in hopes of seeing the then 12-year old. She also says producers pitched her a nude film during that time. Her parents made the joint decision for her to withdraw from an acting career, as they "just weren't equipped to be managers". Stronach didn't quit acting completely though, but moved on to theatre and also pursued dancing. She went on to become a director of her own company, a dance professor at Marymount Manhattan College, as well as a yoga teacher.
I absolute loved The NeverEnding Story as a kid, even though it scared the crap out of me. Learning Tami basically had to quit because she was being tracked down by pedophiles is infuriating. Thank god she didn't have stage parents.
